Who can have a royal warrant ?

Question

Who can have a royal warrant and do you have to apply for one ?

Answer

A Royal warrant is granted to people or companies who have regularly supplied goods or services for a minimum of five consecutive years to The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh or The Prince of Wales.
Strict rules control the warrant, which allow the holder  to use the legend "By Appointment" and display the Royal coat of arms on products.
Applications for a Royal warrant are made once a year, the closing date being the end of May

What Poem Could I Put In A Birthday Card ?

Question

What Poem could I put in a birthday card. I want something romantic but not excessively soppy and sentimental.

Answer

I choose this, it is the end of Sonnet 17 by Pablo Neruda.

I love you without knowing how or when or where
I love you simply, without problems or pride;
I love you because I know no other way,

than this,   where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes shut as I fall asleep.

      SONETO XVII

How are mandarins segmented and pith removed before they are tinned ?

Question
How is the thin membrane on mandarins segments removed before they are tinned ?

 Answer
The mandarins are prepared by lye peeling. Segments are peeled using a chemical process. First, the segments are scalded in hot water to loosen the skin; then they are bathed in a lye solution, which digests the membranes. Finally, the segments have  several rinses in plain water.
